The best ATS truck mods for 1.61 are free and none of them need DLC. To get started, try the Mack R Series, the International HX520 2022, the Kenworth T660, the Project 3XX or the WS 4900 Lite. If you like classics, there are Smarty’s Peterbilts and Maurice Randall’s vintage trucks. The only paid exception is the Freightshaker Classic XL, which costs $35. Below they’re sorted by style, with their version, where to buy them and which add-ons suit them.
This guide focuses only on trucks. If you’re looking for maps, traffic or graphics, check out the best ATS mods guide. If this is your first mod, start with how to install mods in ATS.
Before you install a modded truck
- Version. ATS is on 1.61, released on September 15, 2026. A truck built for 1.60 usually loads, but it may have headlight or material glitches. Several authors had to fix their headlights specifically for 1.61.
- Where it shows up. Some are bought at their brand’s dealer and others in the mod dealers section. There are some odd cases: the Mack R Series is sold at the Kenworth dealer and the Scot A2HD at any Peterbilt dealer. We point this out for each one.
- Size. A complete truck can take up anywhere from 20 MB to more than 700 MB. The big ones make your profile take longer to load.
- Multiplayer. Almost no author says whether their truck works in Convoy or TruckersMP. The Mack R Series, for example, isn’t compatible with TruckersMP.
- Test in another profile. If you remove a mod, the truck disappears from your garage. Try it first in a copy of your profile.

American classics
Mack R Series
The Mack R Series recreates the late-seventies Mack R, with an R600 hood and a day cab, which is its only configuration for now. It has an animated interior and sound by Kriechbaum, and it’s up to date for 1.61. You buy it at the Kenworth dealer and it weighs about 390 MB. It’s one of the most-subscribed modded trucks on the Workshop, but it doesn’t work in TruckersMP.
Smarty’s Peterbilts: 350, 351 and 358
Smarty makes the best-researched classics on the Workshop, and publishes them on Steam and on his website, scr-rigs.com. The Peterbilt 350 recreates the 1949 model, the first long-nose Peterbilt. It comes with double-reduction axles for older engines or the Stabilaire chassis for more modern engines. Its successor, the Peterbilt 351, is on version 1.2 from August 2026. The Peterbilt 358 (1965-1972) was the first Peterbilt with a tilt hood. Heads-up: Smarty doesn’t list the game version, and his latest updates date from the 1.59 and 1.60 era. With the standard chassis they’re deliberately slow trucks.
Maurice Randall’s vintage trucks
Maurice Randall models his trucks from scratch, with Bomkat on research and paint jobs. In September 2026 he updated all of them to fix the headlights in 1.61.
- International Fleetstar 2070A: the tractor from the sixties and seventies, with 400-gallon chrome tanks, an animated dashboard and factory paint. Version 1.6, 42.5 MB.
- Ford NT950D: the largest of Ford’s N-Series (1963-1969), with a short hood. One player warns that the Cummins Big Cam 400 engine is a bit short on power with heavy loads. Version 1.2.
- Ford F-750: a seventies work truck with a two-speed differential. It doesn’t support SiSL’s accessory mega pack.
Canadian rarities: Scot A2HD and Pacific P-500F
The Scot A2HD was Smarty’s first truck for ATS, back in 2016. It was built in Nova Scotia between 1976 and 1980 and had an integrated sleeper, which was unusual for its time. It’s standalone and you buy it at any Peterbilt dealer. The Pacific P-500F is a seventies Canadian heavy-duty truck with the same cab as the Paystar. Both are marked from the 1.59 era.
The nineties and two-thousands
- Project 3XX: a 3XX-series Peterbilt with six hoods in a single truck (330, 357, 377, 377 SFFA, 379 and EXHD). It’s by Half Fast Gaming and marked compatible from 1.57 to 1.61. You download it on TruckyMods and it supports SiSL’s accessories.
- Freightshaker Classic XL (paid): Jon Ruda’s Freightliner Classic XL, with 10 cabs, 8 chassis, an animated interior and Kriechbaum engines. It covers 1.58 to 1.61 and costs $35 on the author’s website, where you also download the updates.
- 90’s Corporation Truck: the nineties trucks from Volvo/GM Heavy Truck Corporation, with configurations faithful to the real ones. It’s marked for 1.58, so 1.61 isn’t confirmed.
- International 9800i: the 1997 cabover, closely tied to Mexican roads. It has more than 116,000 subscribers, but it’s only tested on 1.56 and the download is 712 MB.
- Kenworth T660: the successor to the T600, sold in Mexico until 2017. The free version comes with one cab and the factory accessories, and it’s updated for 1.61.
- GTM Kenworth T800: the GTM team’s sloped-nose T800, with chassis from 4×2 to 8×4. The base mod hasn’t been touched since 2020. To play it on 1.61 you need the GTM Fixes patch, placed above it in the Mod Manager.
- WS 4900 Lite: Jon Ruda’s Western Star 4900 in a free version, with a high-roof sleeper and a 6×4 chassis. The full version, with 5 cabs and more chassis, costs $35 on his website. The Lite weighs 587.6 MB.
Work trucks and heavy haul
For heavy loads, construction or regional delivery:
- International HX520 2022: Harven’s heavy-duty work truck, with three cabs and six wheelbases in 6×4, 8×4 and 8×6. It runs Cummins X15 engines. You buy it at the International dealer, it’s updated for 1.61 and it takes up about 673 MB. DLC accessories need separate add-ons.
- International Paystar 5070: by Smarty, with an oversized chassis and high ground clearance. It only has a day cab and limited range, so its author recommends it for in-state trips. It shows up in quick jobs for heavy cargo.
- Chevrolet Kodiak and GMC TopKick: two 1997 medium-duty trucks converted into tractors with a fifth wheel. They’re in the mod dealers, under Chevrolet and GMC. This is the first version, from October 2026.
- International Workstar 7600: a basic 21.6 MB truck, with no extra accessories, that fits right into a work fleet.
If you haul oversize loads, pair them with the Trail King Schnabel trailer. For shifting, there’s the FAT-30 Auxiliary Transmission gearbox, with up to 54 gears, although it’s marked for 1.58.
Upgrades for the stock trucks
These mods don’t add trucks: they expand the ones the game already includes.
- Peterbilt 389 Rework: rebuilds the 389 with parts from the 389X, grilles, bumpers and eight interiors. It replaces the original, so it may conflict with other mods for the same truck. It’s compatible from 1.58 to 1.61.
- Volvo VNL 2025 Add-ons and Extra VNL ’25 Parts: parts for the Volvo VNL 2025, which SCS added for free in May 2026. They include mirror cameras, the Edge Black set, deflectors and removable side skirts. Extra VNL ’25 Parts overwrites SCS parts, and its author details what it conflicts with.
- Peterbilt 579 Blackened Chrome: swaps the 579’s chrome for an onyx black finish. It only affects the day cab version with a 4×2 or short 6×4 chassis.
- Ownable All Old Trucks: puts SCS’s old trucks that can no longer be bought back on sale. It’s very light (137 KB) and its author marks it for 1.60 or later.
Are there European trucks for ATS?
For now we don’t have any European truck adapted to ATS with its author’s permission in the directory. We only publish conversions with credit and permission from the original author, and we don’t publish models ripped from other games. If you’re after a Scania or a Volvo FH, play Euro Truck Simulator 2: in the best truck in ETS2 we compare the stock ones.
Add-ons that improve any truck
Sound
- Mack E9 V8 Straight Pipe Sound: Mack’s straight-pipe V8 for the Mack R Series and three other modded Macks. It doesn’t work on SCS’s Macks without editing files.
- Mack E7 E-TECH Engine Sound: E7 engines from 400 to 525 hp for the Mack R Series, with their own sound. It needs Knights Gaming’s two soundproofing mods.
- Cummins Big Cam IV Straight Pipe Sound: Slav Jerry’s 300 to 400 hp NTC-855, designed for old-style trucks. It’s marked up to 1.60.
Transmissions, wheels and paint
- Real Eaton Fuller Transmissions: 30 real transmissions for 17 stock trucks and many modded ones, including the Pacific P-500F, the Peterbilt 350 and 351 and the Scot A2HD. Before removing it, put the stock transmissions back on.
- Smarty’s Wheel Pack: Alcoa and Accuride rims plus Michelin, Goodyear and Continental tires. It was updated after 1.61 came out.
- Realistic Custom Metallic Paint: a finer metallic paint for the custom color. It works on SCS trucks and many modded ones, like Smarty’s Peterbilt 350 and 351.

Frequently asked questions
Which ATS truck mods work on 1.61?
Confirmed ones are the Mack R Series, the International HX520 2022, the Kenworth T660, the Project 3XX, the WS 4900 Lite, the Freightshaker Classic XL, the Peterbilt 389 Rework and Maurice Randall’s trucks (the Kodiak/TopKick came out after 1.61 was already released, although its author doesn’t list a version). The GTM Kenworth T800 also works, but only with GTM Fixes. Smarty’s Peterbilts, Paystar, Pacific and Scot don’t list a version.
Do I need any DLC?
No. None of the trucks in this guide require a DLC. Some support DLC accessories, such as Cabin Accessories, if you own them.
Which ones are paid?
The Freightshaker Classic XL costs $35 on Jon Ruda’s website. The WS 4900 is free in its Lite version, and the full one costs $35. All the others are free.
Where do I find the truck after installing it?
It depends on the mod. Some appear at their brand’s dealer, others in the mod dealers section and some at another brand’s dealer, like the Mack R Series at the Kenworth one. If you don’t see it, check that it’s enabled in your profile’s Mod Manager.
Can I use them in multiplayer?
In Convoy, every player needs the same mods. Most authors don’t say whether they’re compatible with TruckersMP. The Mack R Series isn’t compatible.
Holymod isn’t affiliated with SCS Software or with the manufacturers mentioned (Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack, International, Ford, Freightliner, Western Star, Volvo, Chevrolet, GMC and others). These are fan-made mods, and the brands belong to their owners. We don’t host files: every download happens on the author’s website or platform.
